Bio: John Belushi (1949-82); joined Second City in Chicago in 1971; National Lampoon’s “Lemmings” stage show in 1972, opposite Chevy Chase, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, Christopher Guest; National Lampoon Radio Hour, 1974-75; auditioned as his Samurai character to land a spot on “SNL”, even though producer Lorne Michaels was leery of hiring a performer he thought would bring nothing but trouble; on his 30th birthday, Belushi was not only starring on the highest-rated late night television program, but also was starring in the number one film in America (“Animal House”), and had the number one album in America (“Briefcase Full of Blues”, as The Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd); died of drug overdose in 1982, at age 33; younger brother, Jim, later joined the cast of “SNL.” Notable Characters and Sketches
